Dealing with Internet Security

If your computer has an internet security program installed, you may have difficulties downloading data, registering and unregistering and/or upgrading ShareChart.

How to configure your internet security

You should configure your internet security program to allow the following programs to access the internet at all times.

None of the above ShareChart programs should ever be blocked by your internet security program. Please ensure that they are not listed in your internet security’s blocking list.

When prompted, always tick "Always allow access" or "Always permit access on all ports".

How to configure Norton Internet Security (NIS) to allow DataDownload.exe to access  the internet and download data.

When you first start Download data, Register, Unregister or Upgrade, a NIS popup box may appear showing "DataDownload.exe is attempting to access the Internet" and it will ask you "what do you want to do?". The standard NIS default message will be "Block Always (Recommended)".

If you were to click the "Block Always (Recommended)" OK button then the ShareChart function you are attempting to use will always be blocked from any internet access and you will not be able use that function again. You should, therefore, select "Permit All" before clicking the OK button.

If the ShareChart function is blocked by NIS, you can try the following procedure to remove the block

  1. Right click on the NIS icon, which is located on the bottom right corner of your lower toolbar.
  2. Select Open Norton Internet Security
  3. In the NIS dialog box, select Status & Settings
  4. Select Personal Firewall, and click  the Configure button
  5. Select Programs from the configuration box, and select the blocked function .exe file from the Program table.
  6. Click the Modify button and then select Permit from the "What do you want to do" dropdown box.
  7. Click OK to accept the changes and then click OK to close the NIS configuration box.

You should then be able to use the blocked ShareChart function. You can repeat the above procedures for any other ShareChart functions (Unregister, Upgrade, etc if they have become blocked).

You should select "Grant Access" to allow the DataDownload.exe to access the internet.

If DataDownload.exe is blocked in MISS, you can try the following procedure to remove the blocking.

  2. Select Open McAfee SecurityCenter
  3. In MISS dialog box, select Personal Firewall
  4. Click View the Internet Applications List
